La temporada de premios comienza a tomar forma con el anuncio de las nominaciones a los Gotham Film Awards 2025, donde Paul Thomas Anderson vuelve a destacar. Su más reciente cinta, One Battle After Another, lidera la lista con seis nominaciones, un récord histórico para el certamen que celebra lo mejor del cine independiente.
La película, producida por Warner Bros. Pictures, compite en la categoría principal de Mejor Película, además de obtener menciones para Mejor Dirección, Guion Adaptado, Mejor Interpretación de Reparto (Benicio del Toro y Teyana Taylor) y Revelación del Año para Chase Infiniti.
En la categoría de Mejor Película, la cinta de Anderson enfrentará a If I Had Legs I’d Kick You, que consiguió cuatro nominaciones, así como a producciones como Familiar Touch, Hamnet, Sorry, Baby, The Testament of Ann Lee y Train Dreams, entre otras. Este año, los Gotham aumentaron el número de nominados en su categoría principal de cinco a diez títulos, reflejando un panorama cinematográfico más diverso.
Los premios, que se entregarán el lunes 1 de diciembre en el Cipriani Wall Street de Nueva York, también reconocen a It Was Just an Accident y No Other Choice, ambas con tres nominaciones. Desde 2021, los Gotham mantienen categorías de actuación sin distinción de género, reafirmando su compromiso con la inclusión y la equidad.
Además, la organización anunció homenajes especiales: Noah Baumbach recibirá el Director Tribute por Jay Kelly; Tessa Thompson, el Spotlight Tribute por Hedda; Frankenstein será reconocida con el Vanguard Tribute; y el elenco de Sinners obtendrá el Ensemble Tribute.
“Este año celebramos una cosecha extraordinaria de cine independiente: historias audaces, originales y con visión artística”, expresó Jeffrey Sharp, director ejecutivo del Gotham Film & Media Institute.
